Depth fulfills/”Nervous as a butterfly”
If you seek a sense of fulfillment, do not look for it in the breadth of your activities, but in depth. Breadth excites, can be fun, but does not fulfill.
For example, various posts on Facebook can entertain you, spark curiosity… but you will find fulfillment in delving into a good book or film. Flirting with different partners may invoke “butterflies,” be exciting and interesting, but it is not as fulfilling as a deep loving relationship with someone or a with a profession.
Various hobbies, versatility, and a wide range of interests and activities have the same effect. It is good to have them. But it is like television: “a bit of everything, not enough of anything.”
A person without depth is like a “butterfly” flitting from flower to flower. They flutter through life “nervous like a butterfly,” as Bajaga would say.
Nowadays, people are increasingly like butterflies. Everyone tempts us with their advertisements to land on their little “flower,” spend some money, of course… even if we just become spectators, visitors, followers… liking and sharing… spreading ourselves into various shallows.
And a person, when they spread their arms, resembles a cross (or is the cross made to resemble a person?). What about the vertical? The depths and heights? By losing that dimension of life, do we not cease to resemble ourselves?
Well, you can like this, since I’ve written it… but make sure to dive into someone or something so you don’t remain “nervous as a butterfly” and end up, like Bajaga, in a state of “don’t mess with me!”
